Outstanding performances by young guns Luke Van Der Westhuis, Harry Harry and Cooper Biddle helped Orange CYMS Cricket Club win a drama-filled final of the inaugural Orange District Cricket Association T20 Cup on Saturday.
Van Der Westhuis hit a match-winning 35 not out from 24 balls - including the title-sealing boundary in the last over - after starting his innings with CYMS in all sorts of strife at 6-39 in pursuit of Orange City's 8-92.
"I knew that we needed two to win and saw that they brought the field up, so I just wanted to hit the ball as hard as I could," Van Der Westhuis said of the game's final stroke.
"When I saw it go over (Orange City captain Campbell Warburton) and then the boundary, it was such a good feeling, just unbelievable. I've never hit the winning runs in a game before. I was smiling from ear to ear."
Player of the Match Biddle had earlier taken the incredible figures of 3-5 off his four overs, while Harry took an economical 1-12 off four overs and then hit a decisive 15 runs after CYMS's early batters faltered.
The two-wicket win with five balls to spare capped off a dominant T20 season for the green and golds, who lost just one of their matches.
