In his first outing with Orange CYMS, new recruit Ben Orme has delivered a Player-of-the-Match performance to help the First Grade side to its first win of the 2023-24 season.

The all-rounder scored 25 runs and took 3-31 off eight overs as the green and golds overcame City Colts at Wade Park in the second round of the Bathurst Orange Inter-District Cricket (BOIDC) competition.

CYMS hit 7-207 from their 40 overs before bowling out their opponents for 177 in the 38th over, thanks largely to Orme's scalps of City Colts' top-order guns Henry Shoemark (44) and Russell Gardner (0).

Opening batter Joey Coughlan, reunited with Orme at CYMS after previous seasons playing together at Bathurst City, said he wasn't surprised by his mate's performance.

"He's the first bloke I'd pick in any team to play with," Coughlan told the Central Western Daily.

"Now he's back for a crack at the trophy. We really want to pick one of those up before we even think about hanging the boots up. Hopefully we can do something special this year."

This weekend sees a general bye for all BOIDC teams, with CYMS to take on Centrals at the Country Club in the season's first two-day fixture on Saturday 28 October and Saturday 4 November.
